#98 Ano ang Ika-anim Utos?

Ang ika-anim na utos ay ito:

Exo 20:13 “Huwag kang papatay.

English Version

Q.98. What is the sixth commandment?

A.  The sixth commandment is, “You shall not murder.”

This command is only two words in the Hebrew language. This is the commandment that does not seem to need to be interpreted because it is clear that we should not kill our neighbors who are created in the image of God. God is the source and giver of life, killing our neighbor is an insult to Him who gave life.

This command shows the importance of life and its proper care and protection. Again it is not only that we must take care of our lives and those of our neighbors because it will have a negative effect on our society, but more importantly, because all human beings are created in the image of God (Ge 1: 26-27) and we are responsible to our Creator. The sixth commandment does not prohibit any kind of killing but it does specify murder or intentional manslaughter. We will clarify this in the next question.

To God be the glory!
