Makikita nga natin sa 1 Samuel 18:1
1 As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
AHEB is a general Hebrew word for “LOVE”. Ayun sa ating bible survey, it occurs 210 times sa ating OT bible. Gaya na lamang sa Genesis 25:28
28 Isaac LOVED Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah LOVED Jacob. Parehong salitang AHEB ang ginamit dito, nangangahulugan ba na merong same sex relationship si Isaac and Esau? May sexual relationship narin ba si Rebekah and Jacob?
Ngayon i-check naman natin anong term ang ginagamit when the bible refers to sexual relationship or activity. Ginagamit ang salitang “TO KNOW” or “TO HAVE RELATIONS” at ang Hebrew word naman na katumbas nito ay “YADA”. Therefore, kung merong something sexual ang relationship particularly homosexual relationship si David at Jonathan then the Bible could have used “YADA” to refer to their close relationship gaya ng sa:
Genesis 19:5 Bring them out to us, that we may know them.”
Genesis 19:8 I have two daughters who have not known any man; and Judges 19:22 Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.
Sabi sa 1 Samuel 18:4 4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, and even his sword and his bow and his belt. These are princely apparel or kingly garment. Jonathan recognized David to be the next king. This action coming from Jonathan covenantal as mentioned in 1 Samuel 18:3 Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own soul. Ngayon yung phrase na “he loved him as his own soul” ay huwag din natin bigyan ng malisya dahil consistent ang Bible jan. We are even commanded in Matthew 22:39 39 You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Now to cut the long story, nagkaroon ng jealousy at matinding galit si Saul kay David at dahil doon ay nais niya siyang patayin. At dahil nakaligtas si David nagpasalamat siya kay Jonathan sa 1 Samuel 20:41 41 David rose from beside the stone heap and fell on his face to the ground and bowed three times. And they kissed one another and wept with one another, David weeping the most. Bakit ba sila nag-kiss? Kisses between men were also common in ancient times (Genesis 45:15; Ruth 1:9; 1 Samuel 10:1; Acts 20:37). There is no sign or hint of a homosexual relationship in these verses.
Nalungkot ng lubusan si David because both of them will be parting ways. It is indeed sad kapag ikaw ay napapa hiwalay sa matalik mong kaibigan at hindi lang sila basta magkaibigan itong dalawa kundi meron silang covenant. Both of them sworn in the name of the Lord saying “1 Samuel 20:42 The LORD shall be between me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring, forever.
At dahil sa pakikipag laban si Jonathan ay namatay and it was only natural for a friend O isang tao na tinuring na kapatid O higit pa ay malungkot talaga ng sobra. Kaya naman sabi sa 2 Samuel 1:26 26 I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; very pleasant have you been to me; your love to me was extraordinary, surpassing the love of women. Ang word na “LOVE” dito in Hebrew is “AHABAH” galing parin sa salitang “AHEB” at sa naestablished natin kanina, ang salitang “AHEB” sa Hebrew does not suggest sexual relationship base sa pagkakagamit nito sa kanyang context. It surpasses the love of women dahil nga sabi sa context ay meron silang covenantal relationship sa Panginoon (1 Sam 20:42).
