SOME EXCERPTS AND LESSONS FROM TODAY’S MESSAGE

MORNING SERMON

FOCUS: “CONTINUING STEADFAST IN PRAYER”
Text:
 [Romans 12:12]
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”

  1. INSTANT IN PRAYER
  2. DEVOTED TO PRAYER

– We ought to be constant in prayer to prevent ourselves from being discouraged.
– Prayer is not a duty. It involves personal relationship, a communion with God.
– Prayer is not mechanical. It is an intimate personal communion for the purpose of depending on God [the giver of grace].

“Cold prayers always freeze before they reach heaven”

Thomas Brooks

– The only way to avoid anxiety is to pray.
– Prayer is the breath of all true people of God.
– προσκαρτερέω from Greek “proskartereō” pros-kar-ter-eh’-o which does not have a direct english translation but connotes being steadfast, instant and devoted in prayer
– An epitome of a Christian life is gauged through prayer
– Without the Holy Spirit, even the best preacher cannot be saved.
– Our human responsibility is impossible without the preserving work of God.
– All of us need to continually pray and plead for His preserving grace.
– Prayer is the ‘breath’ of all ‘true’ people of God.

“A prayer-less soul is a Christ-less soul”

 – Charles Haddon Spurgeon

– Prayer is the breath of all true people of God.
– προσκαρτερέω from Greek “proskartereō” pros-kar-ter-eh’-o which does not have a direct english translation but connotes being steadfast, instant and devoted in prayer
– An epitome of a Christian life is gauged through prayer

AFTERNOON SERMON

FOCUS: “CHRIST OUR HELP”

TEXT: [Hebrews 2:16-18]
“For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.”

  1. THOSE WHO RECEIVE HELP
  2. THE ONE WHO HELPS

– Those who received help refers to the seed of Abraham
– It refers not the physical seed but the spiritual seed of Abraham (Christians in all ethnicity and nations)
– used the Greek word ἐπιλαμβάνομα: “epilambanomai” ep-ee-lam-ban’-om-ahee, which has no direct english translation but means to seize (for help, injury, attainment or any other purpose; literally or figuratively): – catch, lay hold (up-) on, take (by, hold of, on).
– Christ’s help is not just a one-off but it will lay hold until we see Him.
– The One who helps us is our elder brother: “Therefore he had to be made like his brothers”
– Christ experienced all things as a man (hunger, thirst, et al) except sin.
– Christ’s degree of suffering is incomparable.
– In times of sorrow – we have a friend in Jesus. Jesus is our friend but not just our friend, He is also our Lord and Savior.
– Christ is able to represent us because He is 100% Man and He is 100% God

Blessed LORD’s day, dear saints!
To God alone be the glory!
