LORD’s Day #27 (2022)

To the choirmaster: according to Muth-labben. A Psalm of David. I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
Psalms 9:1-2 ESV

SOME Excerpts and Lessons from TODAY’s MEssage

SUNDAY SCHOOL: "BASIC DISCIPLINES OF A CHRISTIAN LIFE: HOW TO READ SCRIPTURE"
Read the Scriptures Christocentrically

We find Christ:
- Typified in the books of Moses,
- Promised in the books of Prophets,
- Historically present in the four Gospels,
- Head of His Church within the Epistles,
- A King who presently reigns and is soon to return in the book of Revelation."

MORNING SERMON: FOCUS: "DIVERSITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST"
Romans 12: 3-5
1. THE REALITY OF THE DIVERSITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST
2. THE CALL FOR HARMONIOUS RELATION IN THE BODY OF CHRIST

"In the body of Christ - No matter how honorable our gift may be, we are still dependent from one another "

"Diversity, not uniformity, is the mark of God’s handiwork. It is so in nature; it is so in grace, too, and nowhere more so than in the Christian community. Here are many men and women with the most diverse kinds of parentage, environment, temperament, and capacity. Not only so, but since they became Christians they have been endowed by God with a great variety of spiritual gifts as well. Yet because and by means of that diversity, all can co-operate for the good of the whole." - FF Bruce

“We are united in Christ but there is no uniformity in the body of Christ. Each member of the church functions properly according to their gifts – only by the grace of God – for the glory of God.”

Afternoon Sermon: Focus: "THE LORD's SUPPER"
Text: 1 Cor 11:23-26

Lord's Supper (Communion) is a moment that the church declares that we are glad in the saving death and we are remembering who saves us.

- In the Lord's supper - we are proclaiming not anything about us or anything about our local church - we are proclaiming the Lord's death until He comes. It is a continual celebration.

"None of us are spectators when it comes to sin. All of us participate in the drama of sin."

"Theology becomes personal at the cross because we deserve the punishment that fell upon Christ. Theology becomes pastoral at the cross because the Father did not treat us as our sins deserve."

Heidelberg Catechism Q42
Q.42. Since Christ has died for us, why do we still have to die?
A. Our death does not pay the debt of our sins. Rather, it puts and end to our sinning and is our entrance into eternal life.

“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’ “

– Abraham Kuyper
Bella Vista Sermon: Is God your Father?
Text: 1 John 3:10
Message: The Christians’ life of righteousness and love for the brethren is evident as children of God.

We live a righteous life and love our brethren because...
1. We are not the Devil’s children
2. We are God’s children

True Children of God displays a life of righteousness.

"Anyone who does not act righteously does not belong to God" - Brooke, 90
