“The defilement of my mind will obscure the sight of the living God.”
– John Piper
What passages have you restored in your heart when temptation comes? The passages below are helpful passages that can urge us to stop pursuing temptations pertaining to lust.
1. Warning. Mortification requires radical amputation.
Matthew 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.
2. Promise. Ponder on what you will lose! Do you want to see God? Then don’t go that path!
Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
3. Provision. Christ did not die for nothing. Dwell on the gospel.
1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Think about this, “Christ suffered horribly on the cross so that I would not click on a sexually stimulating material and I do not want to hammer another nail into His hands.”
What about you? What biblical passages do you call to mind whenever you are faced with a quick surge of the flesh and temptation?
To God be the glory!
