The saints' rejoicing in the LORD
Is not confined in times of bliss,
We can also praise afford 
In time of gloom and weariness.

God has ordained not only mirth
To make His people praise His Name,
He gives also pains on earth 
To make His church His might proclaim.

Once David said that it was good
That pain assailed his feeble soul.
Took he God's word as his food 
To make him wise and truly whole.

The Spirit grants peculiar balm
To comfort all God's people dear
Stay, we can, secure and calm
Amid the storm still we can cheer.
