SCBC Lord’s Day #3 (2022)

Then Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Here are the oxen for the burnt offering and the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. All this, O king, Araunah gives to the king.” And Araunah said to the king, “May the LORD your God accept you.” But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

SCBC Sunday School: Exposition of 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith (Ptr. Jeremiah)

Chapter 30:1 Of the Lord’s Supper

1689 30 – Historical Development (Key Theologians)

  • Difference between Apostolic Fathers (offering sacrifice to the LORD) and the Scriptures (From the LORD to the church. God expressing His grace to the believers)
  • Luther – Babylonian Captivity (1520) – critique on RCC’s transubstantiation. Christ’s presense is within the element (the elements house the presence of Christ- consubstantiation)
  • Zwingli – The LORD’s presence is not in the element but in the hearts of the believers
  • Calvin – stood between Zwingli and Luther. The effectiveness of the LORD’s supper is not inherent in the elements. It is effectual by the objective power of the Spirit to the communicants who participate by faith for their nourishment. It is a Biblically prescribed objective means of grace as part of the RPW (Regulative Principle of Worship).
  • A.A Hodge and Charles Hodge – The Spiritual essence was contained within the subjective recollections of the participant as he remembered Christ’s death by recalling the cross and the doctrines of the atonement.
  • BIBLICAL VIEW: The LORD’s supper is God’s ordained sermon illustration of Christ’s death and resurrection.
  • Heart and mind should be transported back to the Calvary. Refreshing of our hearts and minds of what Christ’s did for us on the cross.

SCBC Morning Message: Expository Series on the Book of Romans (Ptr. Jeremiah)

Verse: Rom 11:15

  1. The Present Consequence of Jewish Rejection of Christ v. 15a
  2. The Anticipated Consequence of Jewish Acceptance of Christ v. 15b

“When we receive the LORD Jesus Christ, we receive Him for his whole Person and Work, His exclusive claim, authoritative revelation, and righteous judgment.

If Jewish rejection resulted in Gentiles' blessings, how much more will their acceptance be?

"Men only wanted to receive Christ as Savior from hell but not as Savior from their darling sins.

"You can never be reconciled to God if you accept Jesus partially. Lay down your weapons and intellectual arguments against God, and submit to Him as Savior and LORD."

Application: Don’t stop proclaiming the gospel, though you are rejected by your family, friends, etc.
