SCBC Lord’s day #49

Modern Day Gospel: “A God without wrath bringing people without sin into a kingdom without judgment through a Christ without a cross.” — H. Richard Niebuhr

What’s the gospel that you preached or heard today?

If it is not the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, it is no gospel at all!

SCBC Sunday School: Exposition of 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith (Ptr. Jeremiah)

Chapter 29.3-4: On Baptism Water Baptism by immersion in the Name of the Triune God

3The outward element to be used in this ordinance is water, wherein the party is to be baptized, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 4Immersion, or dipping of the person in water, is necessary to the due administration of this ordinance.

  1. The outward element: Water
  2. The verbal expression: The Name of the Triune God
  3. The actual procedure: Immersion – Jesus went out of (Mt 3:16) and the Eunuch went down to the water (Acts 8:38). Immersion is necessary. It is immersion alone.

The water has no magical element since God looks at the inward but it is not carnal to use the element of water to convey upon us baptism’s significance.

SCBC Morning Message: Expository Series on the Book of Romans (Ptr. Jeremiah)

Romans 11:1-4 – The Future of Israel

  1. God’s Rejection of Israel is not total
  2. The First Reason of Not Total Rejection
Just because God has rejected Israel, doesn't mean that He is finished with them. Ethnic Israel fell, they were blinded, but they will be ingrafted again in the future. Time will come, there will be a massive conversion of the Ethnic Israel.

SCBC Afternoon Message: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 – The Lord’s Supper

“To partake of the LORD’s supper, the bread and wine, is to be part of the corporate proclamation of the gospel.”

  1. Its Divine institution – It is meant to perpetuate the remembrance of Christ’s death
  2. Its Nature & Design – The LORD’s table is an announcement of the atonement. We become spiritual partakers.
  3. Its Significance – It is to remember the LORD Jesus Christ: His person (God-man) and work (accomplished redemption).

OFW Community Service: Acts 4:12 – Bro. Jeff

The Name that Saves

Message: Salvation cannot be found in anything else because Christ’s Name alone saves.
  1. Salvation cannot be found in anything else (Negation)
    • It cannot be found in just any other.
    • It cannot be found in any other name.
    • It cannot be found in any of us.
  2. Salvation can only be found in Christ (Assertion)
    • Salvation in His Name
    • Salvation is through Christ alone

None can be saved apart from Him. If anyone is to be saved, He must be saved through Christ alone.

Salvation can only be found in Christ because of the glory of His person and work. None has ever done and can ever do what He did (work of redemption) and none can ever be what He is (the God-man).

Application:

  • We must continue to boldly preach the Name of Jesus despite rejection
  • We must maintain confidence in preaching no other Name but Christ. This is the only hope of this world. Do not be ashamed to preach Christ like Paul (Rom 1:16)

Blessed Lord’s Day!
