SCBC Lord’s day #35

2 Peter 3:13
But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

The Lord’s day is a foretaste of the perfect worship at the coming of Christ in new heavens and earth, may this consume our thoughts as we worship the LORD today.

Our union with Christ should be understood in terms of the great exchange.

“Our legal status is determined by his, and his rights, honours, relations, all are made ours in co-partnership with him”. – Hodge

The standard of God doesn’t settle for 99.99%. If there is any defect, you are totally condemned. The demand is absolute perfection.

Morning Message: God’s condemnation of Israel -Romans 9:30-33

“Election alone accounts for the saved, but non-election does not account for the lost… No man would be saved were it not that God in a sovereign manner has chosen him… It is God’s action alone that saves a man. So why is anybody lost? Is it because they are not elected? No! What accounts for the lost is their rejection of the gospel.” – Martin Lloyd Jones

Don’t think of your election and non-election, think that you are a sinner. And a sinner that comes to Christ by faith will not be cast away.

God could have destroyed Nineveh or the sailors, but God was merciful to give them chance to repent by sending Jonah.

God could have taken your life because of your sins, but the fact that you are hearing the gospel, you have a chance to repent and believe in the LORD Jesus Christ.

Don’t waste this chance to repent.

Afternoon Message: Jonah 4:10-11 – Man’s foolishness & God’s mercy
