Whenever I read the story of King David, I get so tired in my imagination. He was constantly on a battle, in dispute with other kingdoms, in hiding from his enemies, and often tormented by sorrow and grief. Yet king David had created the most beautiful songs of praise for the Lord.
The words of his compositions have been the source of comfort for many Christians throughout the years. How is it that despite earthly troubles, he had known peace and comfort a few of us today knows about?
We learn from him when he said:
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Psalms 18:2 NKJV
King David had proven the power of a heartfelt cry to the Almighty God; of looking to Him for help and leaning on Him for strength. He knew that if mountains bow in just one word from Yahweh, so will every doubt and troubles in his heart.
David knew that God never turns His back on those whose hope is anchored on Him.
When the circumstances shake you and troubles are crumbling down on you, where do you run for protection? When sin calls out to you like a sweet singing siren and waves of ungodliness are trying to drown you, where do you run for safe harbor?
Far may it be from us to rely on our own strength. May we all find ourselves clinging — tightly clinging– to the Rock of Ages.
SOLI DEO GLORIA!
